A Christian testimony: An opportunity to share the gospel with the young ones

It's another day that the Lord has blessed us with. Looking back at the last week I got an opportunity to go into the community and meet several people with whom I had shared the gospel when I first arrived in Lambert's bay. Most notably, was the four people who I had shared the gospel with on the way to the barbershop. Well, what stood out for me was when we reflected on the book of John and then we concluded in prayer. Now, something happened during the course of our discussion that was totally mind-blowing. A man walked out of the supermarket we were standing next to, to give out two loaves of bread. This wasn't long after I had mentioned to them about God's provision and how it was important to seek first the Kingdom of God. They were amazed by this confirmation and for some strange reason, I felt God was speaking to each of them. We prayed together and also gave thanks for Trevor who had been missing for almost two weeks and was discovered near Mosul Bay. Ironically, I spoke to Trevor's father and prayed for him seeing that he too wss straggling to make ends meet.

It is also worth mentioning that Brian came to visit us at the caravan park for some fellowship. I also got to catch up with Bright during the week. The weekend saw the De beers and I visiting Thornbay which is a nearby town to some sightseeing. The natural scenery was definitely memorable with the cliffs meeting the ocean and eventually leading up to a cave that had remnants of coals from a fire and a lunchbox containing a geocache logbook. To be honest, there is quite a demand on one's physique to go up and down the walking trail of an uneven landscape. Oh, and I got to see a small labyrinth with a plaque not far from it whose inscription reminded us of life's journey on this earth.

Not far from there, is probably a restaurant called The Cabin which like the name states is a restaurant built on a ship's design. Well, if you were driving past that one restaurant you could easily mistake it for a ship that laying between two other buildings.

On our return, we went to the habour to fish and Nanke was quite fortunate to catch a fish. It was there that I discovered that the locals often called the baby sharks, doughnuts because of the manner in which the coil themselves up as a defense mechanism.

Now back to the main story

It was a rainy Monday morning and it was a bit colder than usual. I had made a mental note the previous night, that Elmi and I had to share the gospel at Lambert's bay High school. By four am I was already up and about and chose to spend my quiet time in my tent . It wasn't long before Elmi went past my tent to remind me that the time was slowly approaching for us to go and do our assignment. Elmi had désigned some gospel laminated papers which would aid us in sharing the good news using a tool we have come to know as the three circles.

It wasn't long before we arrived at the school and knowing that it was Monday we had to wait a little while before we were ushered into the school hall by one of the members of staff. On arrival in the hall everyone seemed to be busy in a conversation probably chatting with one another on the events that stood out during the weekend.

It wasn't long before silence was observed and as one of the senior members of staff began to speak, everyone listened attentively. Then we began our presentation and it was such a blessing to see how Elmi shared the gospel with the teenagers and one of the wow moments was the time when the whole hall broke into a gospel song at the end of the presentation.

Well our job wasn't done there yet as we returned later on Wednesday. This time it was with a slightly younger age group. In comparison to out previous visit, everyone seemed to be in their place when we arrived. And also it seemed as though this new crowd was eager to participate than the previous one. As we found our way to the hallway once more, we got to see familiar faces from our previous crowd.

I must admit presenting the gospel to young teenagers was a bit of a hurdle I learnt to manœuvre very quickly. The gospel presentation I had tried to recite since the previous night when Elmi and Tian where my audience seemed to have replayed in my mind continuously up to the time of delivery. Well, one verse that came was Matthew 19 verse 11 which apparently was inscripted on my one hand band reminded me of how we as adulte can overcomplicate the simplicity of the gospel forgetting that our younger audience is in dire need of that simplicity. It was a learning curve for me and it was amazing how Elmi manage to cap it all up in Afrikaans.

Later that day, Elmi made another gospel presentation to an even much younger audience at a primary school a stone’s throw away from the high school. It was amazing how well received we were and how we managed to pray for the principal who seemed to have been feeling some discomfort in her walk. Despite battling with her pain she put on a smile and welcomed us to her school. By the Grace of God the gospel was shared amoungst the little ones.

It is amazing how the Lord can use such simple events such as these to spread the good news to people of all walks of life. Personally I was humbled by the réception we received at both schools.

It is my sincere hope that seeds were planted this week and that more will be done in the week to come.
